Hey guys,
Happy Friday! Ready for the Top Ten Weekend Tips?
1. Weihnachtsmarkt
On Monday
the 26th of November most of the famous Christmas markets in Hamburg have
opened their „Buden“. This means that the entire city smells of Glühwein,
gebratene Mandlen and Schmalzgebäck and that the ‘Adventszeit’ has officially
started.
For all of
you expats that are experiencing the pre –Christmas time for the first time:
You have to check out the St Pauli Weihnachtsmarket (also known as the naughty
one) and the ones in the city center and the Hafencity. Of course you have to
try a traditional Glühwein, but the white Glühwein and the Apfelpunsch are also
worth a try.
The
Christmas markets are open every day until the 31.12.2012. (11:00-21:00)
Here is a
list of the most popular Christmas markets in Hamburg:
2.
The Opening of the U4
My second
tip is the Opening of the U4. Yes, it is finally happening. This Saturday you
can celebrate between 16:00 – 22:00 the new U4. Until the 9th of
December you can even use this line for free. So use this opportunity and drive
to the Hafencity on the first of December. As the Hafencity has a huge party
planned for this opening. Not only will you find the famous Hafencity Christmas
market there, but also several artist like “Paint me Picasso” and “Soul lounge
Connection” will be performing at several locations.
There is
also lots to do for children. For example Face painting and building your own “Lebkuchen
Haus”!

Advents-Shopping at Hamburger Meile
Yes, I know..
I tend to write a lot about shopping.. but hey.. Hamburg is a shopping paradise
and during the Adventszeit the Hamburger Meile will be open until 22:00 every
Saturday.. and in my opinion this is something that one just has to mention.
This gives all of us more time to do our Christmas shopping. Plus the Hamburger
Meile has great shops, a Starbucks and it is nice and warm in there… what more
do you want?
4.
Holy Shit Shopping Messe
Funny name
huh? But this exhibition is a must go to! Young designers from all over the
world present their creations this weekend. The Messe is designed as a pop up
concept store and seriously.. you can find anything there. Product designs,
art, photography, graphics, comics, literature and lots of other things.
And the
best part.. the Glühwein. That makes shopping just a little bit more fun ..
especially for all the men out there J
5.
Winter Dom
Liebesapfel, Schmalzgebäck, Zuckerwatte, Lebkuchen Herz…. Yes! The Winter Dom is back J. And every Friday there is a huge firework at
22:30. If there is no fog, one can see the firework even from the Alsterperle
